As you would expect, knowing that their company El Ojo Mecánico and Javier Botet are the names behind Amigo (2019), the horror duo Óscar Martín and Elena Muñoz have not just taken part in every other fright film event on the planet, but also the Dracula Film Festival in Transylvania. As you would expect, Upiro (an ancient name for vampires, which you can rest assured is not in your typical dictionary) was premièred in Austin and featured at Beyond Fest in L. A. Here the convent is not just a circus of horrors, but also, in exchange for a high price, a refuge and house of tolerance. This film by Martín and Muñoz fully engages our fascination with the world of nuns. From Ken Russell to Verhoeven. Via Ruiz de Azúa and Immaculate (2024).
