Summer of 1944. The island of Peleliu is a paradise of coral reefs and lush forest somewhere in the Pacific. Tamaru dreams of becoming a mangaka. He is one of 10,000 Japanese soldiers facing the US troops, who far outnumber them. He wonders why the soldiers are fighting, and what for, when they are so far from home on a little island lost in the middle of the ocean. An account of one of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific War.
