It's Gothic. It's romantic. It's Danish (from the land of Lars von Trier, Vinterberg, Dreyer, Isak Dinesen). It's rough. And its volcanic, sub-polar, windy, coastal landscape is to be found in the Faroe Islands. It has nothing to do with the videogame of the same name created two years ago by Moon Studios, but does (according to Variety) bear similarities to the moving melancholy of Brokeback Mountain (2005) and All of Us Strangers (2023) by Andrew Haigh. Based on a 19th-century story and with a solid script behind it, in fact it journeys mysteriously between two genres: love stories and our own, Horror. Because the attraction between the lad who fell into the sea and the whaler who rescues him ultimately becomes spectral, with shipwrecked sailors whose bodies, tossed up on the coastline by the untamed ocean, retain the heat and colour of living blood.
