To be honest, everyone here is an imposter. You can understand why in the opening scene the guy marks his son's left hand with a branding iron to make sure (and for him to be sure as well, whatever happens) that he is "real". We can't even be sure that the director is who he claims to be. Film websites tend to confuse him with a Texan educator of the same name? The only thing we know about him for certain (+/-) is that he comes from California, and the Savannah Festival jury voted his Other Side of the Box the best supernatural short film of 2019, that Imposters was premièred in Austin, that the main character cheats on his wife and when their son is abducted, he appears in a cavern (which resembles a Backrooms territory more than a cave). We also know that it has been brought to Spanish cinema screens courtesy of A Contracorriente Films.
