Salitre (2026). Spain. 90 min

Nagore Aranburu's first foray into the world of Fantasy, as protagonist, victim and victimiser. Norma Vila, the Bilbao-born scriptwriter, cinematographer and director, founder of the production company Demeter (a fine name), offers her an outstanding role here in her first feature film, playing a coastal woman who runs a marine fish farm. She lives with her daughter. Who is going to study in Barcelona. This cuts her to the quick? A hugely loving mother, a hugely cruel mother? Meanwhile, a lethal crustacean invades the fish farm? Her daughter, by the way, is played by Haizea Carneros. Who very much does have a certificate from the Dark Side. She made her debut in All the Moons (2020) and is also in The Harvester (2026). Photography on Carapace is by Kiko de la Rica, the editor is Raúl López, of The Platform (2019), with music by Aránzazu Calleja. Will it be a spider crab or a horn-eyed ghost crab?
