We like tennis. Finals contested to the death, Wimbledon as the goal. We like tennis in film. Since Strangers on a Train (1951). We like the fact that an arthouse festival (Locarno) selected a film like this, the third feature from Nikias Chryssos, whose Der Bunker (2015) was previously shown at the Berlinale. We like the secret training camps, hidden away from any onlookers. We like the cannibalism. And no, we don't mind that the racket strings are made of catgut (cow was typically used for harps, sheep for lutes). Or of some other mammal... a biped. We like movies full of grossness, blood and death, filmed in Gran Canaria. And we really like the fact that the actress playing the instructor, Elina Löwensohn, is fully fledged in the world of Fantasy, having been in Mandico's She Is Conan (2023).
